It's been a battle with the deer, but our pumpkin plant finally produced. We started several seeds back in February, but after transplant and some cooler than anticipated weather, only two plants survived. One is a Connecticut Pumpkin - great for Jack O' Lanterns - and our other is a Kabocha (Japanese pumpkin). Total yield = two large orange pumpkins and one kabocha.

Most of the damage done by the deer was eating the blooms and new growth, but the plant still got pretty large. Now that the rain has begun, I thought it prudent to harvest these pumpkins, even though they will need to ripen a bit indoors. We would have had a third, small pumpkin, but lost it to the early cool and damp weather.
